Technical Assistance

Millay Arts supports the work and creative process of multidisciplinary artists through residencies, educational and cultural programs that enrich lives and communities locally and globally. Founded in 1973, Millay Arts has hosted over 3000 creators at its historic estate of Steepletop. Facilities include the Barn (built in 1926 from a Sears Roebuck kit) and the Main House (built in 1997 with funding from the MacArthur Foundation, it is an early example of universal design and is ADA-compliant).

Millay Arts is committed to the conservation and preservation of the environment and addressing the issue of climate change through its programs and facilities. The organization has a Climate Strategic Plan and seeks to become a net zero campus. FCI Technical Assistance funding will support assessment of a solar panel installation which is an extension of a 2022 NYSCA Capital Projects and subsequent renovations. Millay Arts will work with New York Solar State Farm on this project; it is estimated that the system could produce 280,423 kW over twenty-five years and save approximately $61,344. Savings from utility costs will go directly to supporting artists and Millay Arts’ programs such as ensuring that the Core Residency program remains free of charge, and implementing increased stipends to offset travel/materials/childcare/work leave.
