After initially launching FCI as a $5-million commitment, the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation has conferred more than $14 million since 2021, while continually expanding and deepening its program. To date, the ongoing initiative has supported a total of 244 energy efficiency and clean energy projects at over 200 visual art institutions across the U.S.
FCI grantees include regional museums, small nonprofits, art schools, and major encyclopedic museums, whose annual operating budgets range from less than $1 million to nearly $500 million.

2023 grantees include 48 visual art institutions across 23 states, with annual operating budgets ranging in size from less than one million to nearly $500 million. A total of $2.7 million was awarded in the 2023 grant cycle, with individual grants from $2.5K to $100k.
