Art In Residence’s (AIR) vision is to bring public art and arts opportunities to the Antelope Valley through active practice, outreach, and education. Founded and operated in 2019 as a labor of love, every year of its existence has seen AIR raise its profile within the community and Los Angeles, and expand its programmatic offerings in service of its mission. In addition to yearly outdoor exhibitions, AIR hosts arts workshops for the community at the Cedar Center for the Arts in Downtown Lancaster. Our ongoing programming includes a plein air drawing workshop at the outdoor property, and a collage workshop exploring ideas around landscape at our studio in Lancaster. We are an independent 501(c)3, but have a close relationship with the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster.

The Catalyst Grant funds will provide a 2400w renewable energy microgrid on a tract of raw land at the foot of the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve near Lancaster. There is currently no power at this undeveloped site. The installation of this microgrid will allow AIR to host events regularly at the property as well as expand exhibition capabilities to include installations with audio and/or lighting components. The microgrid project provides significant energy for sustained events requiring multiple sources of power, from audio/video equipment to lighting needs, and will provide lower, consistent levels of power to sound- or light- based installation works over the course of several weeks.
