Design, Art, and Technology Institute

Catalyst

Launched in 2016, Massachusetts Design, Art, and Technology Institute (DATMA) presents impactful contemporary art at the intersection of design, art, and technology, combined with related community learning experiences, to spark creativity, collaboration, and economic innovation in the South Coast region and beyond. The organization has presented five successful years of programming to date including year-long projects dedicated to the themes of light, water, and shelter. This year sees the expansion of administrative offices to a new location that encompasses an art gallery and studio space. The new, larger, multipurpose unit in a city-owned building offers a one-year lease at a nonprofit rate compared with the previous small office that was not accessible to the public.

This Catalyst Grant will allow DATMA to partially fund a proposed project to install eight Lumens LED light bar fixtures by Kendall Lighting in the gallery and artist studio space for our organization’s public art arm. The intent is to provide stately, subtle spotlighting to provide an elevated ambiance for the public-viewing gallery and artist studio. This project will allow significant energy savings which will be redirected to programming and exhibitions, which includes raising awareness about sustainable practices.
