KinoSaito is an art center rooted in the creation and practice of abstract art and committed to nurturing experimentation in every form and medium. By engaging artist and audience, painting and performance, and learning and play, KinoSaito honors the spirit of its founding muse, Kikuo Saito, and furthers his vision for an interdisciplinary art of making and moving, free of borders and definitions. KinoSaito presents exhibitions, performances, workshops, an artist residency and a range of community workshops; in addition we have a public gathering/garden/green space on our grounds. The visual arts are at the center of our programming, reflected in both our outdoor offerings as well as in our galleries and Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program.
One of our strategic plan goals is to decarbonize, eliminate dependence on fossil fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to remain a net zero facility as we evolve. Our commitment to responding thoughtfully to climate change seeks funding for the purchase of four high-efficiency HVAC units and required solar panels to create a multi-use storage facility. This equipment complements existing solar panels on our school facility. These improvements are essential to ensure proper conditions for the storage of artworks, and also will allow for dedicated space for catering as our event calendar expands and room for a wood shop, essential for pre- and post-exhibitions, also available for our AIRs to use. Moreover, ensuring temperature control will allow us to follow best professional best practices, essential as our exhibition program evolves.
