FAQs

1. What are the deadlines to apply for a grant?
Please see the 2023 grant cycle schedule here.
2. May I submit a proposal if I didn’t submit a Letter of Interest (LOI)?
The Foundation does not review unsolicited LOIs or full applications outside of the FCI grant cycle.
3. I see you fund three types of projects. What if my project includes two of those types?
Please choose one phase of the project.
4. Shall I call the Foundation before submitting a Letter of Interest (LOI)?
Please do not call the Foundation. We will answer basic, specific questions via email to info@frankenthalerclimateinitiative.org. The guidelines and LOI instructions are designed to help you plan what information to share. We will not review or provide feedback on draft materials such as LOIs (or proposals) or summary paragraphs.
ATTENTION Apple device users (Mac, iPhone, or iPad only): Effective March 17, 2023, additional steps are required to configure your Apple device so that it recognizes the new security certificate used by info@frankenthalerclimateinitiative.org. For simple, detailed instructions on how to update the server settings on your Apple device, please visit our Help Center.
5. We are ready to purchase an automated building management system. Does this qualify, and would you put it under technical assistance or implementation?
Yes, please apply for an Implementation grant.
6. This project costs more than the funding amounts you provide. May I apply for the full cost?
Please include the full cost in the budget summary, and request funds within the limits of the grant categories we describe. Your budget summary should be accurate to the best of your knowledge at the time of submittal. Please let us know other potential funding partners, though they need not be committed.
7. Does my institution have to be a 501(c)3 organization or may we use a pass-through?
If you are municipally owned, you are eligible. If you have a partner nonprofit you work with for gifts and grants, then in your LOI please let us know who that is and what your relationship is with them. Please contact us if you have questions about eligibility and applying with a pass-through.
8. Does this grant program apply to new or existing building projects?
Projects in new buildings, existing buildings, and building expansion are all eligible.
