Thank you for your interest in applying to the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation’s Frankenthaler Climate Initiative. The application portal is now open through March 31, 2023.

Scoping and technical assistance grants
  • After you register your organization in the Fluxx portal and are confirmed eligible, the following information will be requested. There is no word count limit but applicants are asked to be as concise and clear as possible.
  • Provide a brief overview of your organization, its activities, importance of visual arts to your mission, and collection if you keep one.
  • Describe the project to be funded. Note if the project is part of a larger initiative or aligned to strategy (e.g., site master plan).
  • Explain why the project is being pursued now.
  • Describe the anticipated results and impact from the project (services, reports, recommendations, emissions avoided, electricity generated, money savings).
  • Explain the roles and expertise of those involved in this project internally and externally, naming contractors if known. Describe why they are qualified to do this work.
  • Complete a high-level project budget and narrative describing how you determined the costs associated with the project.
  • Additional explanations you feel are important for the Foundation and the FCI Reviewers to understand about what makes this project well-timed, especially important, or appropriate now.
Documents
  • Applicants are asked to provide:
  • Required: 501(c)3 or other proof of tax exemption.
  • Required: Documentation to support your case, such as estimates, assessments, drawings or reports that you refer to in your text.
  • Optional: Detailed project budget information.
Commitment to Reporting
  • All grant awards require reports consisting of a narrative and energy data using EnergyStar Portfolio Manager at the following intervals. Instructions and support will be provided - no special is expertise required.
  • 12-month baseline prior to project award
  • Optional project completion report
  • 12 months post-project end date
  • 24 months post-project end date
Implementation grants
  • After you register your organization in the Fluxx portal and are confirmed eligible, you will be asked to complete the following questions as your Letter of Interest. There is no word count limit but applicants are asked to be as concise and clear as possible.
  • Provide a brief overview of your organization, its activities, importance of visual arts to your mission, and collection if you keep one.
  • Describe the project to be funded. Note if the project is part of a larger initiative or aligned to strategy (e.g., site master plan).
  • Explain why the project is being pursued now.
  • Describe the anticipated results and impact from the project (installations, services, reports, recommendations, purchases, emissions avoided, electricity generated, money savings).
  • Explain the roles and expertise of those involved in this project internally and externally, naming contractors if known. Describe why they are qualified to do this work.
  • An estimate for the percentage energy savings or the percent GHG emissions reduction from this project.
  • You will be asked to complete a high-level project budget and narrative describing how you determined the costs associated with the project. Organizations will have an opportunity to be more specific if invited to submit a full proposal.
Full Proposal
If you are invited to submit a full proposal, the following information will be requested:
  • Provide new information from when the Letter of Interest was originally submitted (e.g., describe if a contractor has been selected).
  • Provide clarification/additional information as requested.
  • If this project is a renovation or replacement, describe the anticipated savings in emissions and energy costs from the new efficiencies, and why you selected this approach.
  • If this project is an expansion or added technology, please describe why this is an efficient or cleaner approach than other common approaches, and why you have selected it.

  • Required: Documentation to support your case, such as estimates, assessments, drawings or reports that you refer to in your text.
  • Optional: Detailed project budget information.
